ENERGY MAPPING WILL DRIVE TARGETED POWER INVESTMENTS, SAYS REA BOSS
The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) says the development of a comprehensive energy map will help unlock targeted investments in Nigeria's power sector by identifying areas with the greatest electricity needs and opportunities.
The Managing Director of the REA said the mapping initiative will provide critical data to guide public and private sector investments, ensuring that electricity projects are deployed where they will have the greatest impact.
According to the agency, an accurate energy map will improve planning, reduce duplication of projects, and support the expansion of reliable electricity access, particularly in underserved and off-grid communities.
Energy experts said data-driven planning is essential for attracting investors, improving resource allocation, and accelerating the deployment of renewable energy and rural electrification projects across the country.
They noted that detailed energy mapping can also help governments and developers identify viable locations for mini-grids, solar installations, and other power infrastructure while improving coordination among stakeholders.
The REA reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology and data to support universal electricity access, strengthen Nigeria's energy transition, and promote sustainable economic development through smarter power investments.
