EMIR BACKS KEBBI’S FREE FARM POLICY, URGES TRANSPARENT DISTRIBUTION
The Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu-Bashar, has thrown his weight behind the Kebbi State Government’s free farm inputs policy, describing it as a timely intervention to boost food production and alleviate the suffering of farmers.
The Emir gave the commendation during a meeting with Governor Nasir Idris at the Emir’s palace on Tuesday.
While expressing strong support for the initiative, the Emir urged the state government to ensure transparent and equitable distribution of the farm inputs to genuine farmers across the state.
“We must avoid politicisation and favouritism. Every deserving farmer should benefit from this laudable programme,” the Emir emphasised.
Governor Idris assured traditional rulers of his administration’s commitment to fairness, noting that committees involving traditional institutions have been set up to monitor the distribution process.
The free farm policy, which includes improved seedlings, fertilisers, and herbicides, is part of broader efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and achieve food security in the state.
Farmers in Kebbi have welcomed the Emir’s endorsement, expressing optimism that the policy will significantly improve their yields in the upcoming farming season.
