Elon Musk Criticizes Trump’s Spending Bill, Calling It A “disgusting Abomination.”
Elon Musk has openly denounced President Donald Trump’s proposed spending bill, branding it an “outrageous, pork-laden, disgusting abomination,” according to The Independent UK. His remarks came just days after stepping down from a White House advisory position.
The billionaire entrepreneur, who recently concluded a 130-day term as a special government employee overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency, expressed his strong objections in a post on X Tuesday.
Musk slammed the bill’s expected effect on the federal deficit, cautioning that it could swell the budget shortfall to $2.5 trillion and saddle American taxpayers with an “unsustainable” level of debt.
“I’m sorry, but I’ve had enough,” Musk wrote. “This bloated, outrageous, pork-stuffed Congressional spending bill is nothing short of a disgusting abomination.”
In a scathing post on X Tuesday, Elon Musk condemned lawmakers who supported President Donald Trump’s proposed spending bill, declaring, “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
Musk warned that the bill would significantly deepen the already vast federal deficit, pushing it to a staggering $2.5 trillion and placing an “unsustainable” debt burden on American citizens.
The controversial spending package, which remains under debate in the Senate, has been heavily backed by Trump. It proposes sweeping tax cuts while ramping up funding for military operations, oil drilling, and border security. Simultaneously, the bill outlines substantial reductions to key social programs, including Medicaid and food assistance.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the legislation could add $3.8 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.
In response to Elon Musk’s sharp criticism of the proposed spending bill, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the remarks, reaffirming the administration’s unwavering support for the legislation.
“The president already knows where Elon Musk stands on this bill. It doesn’t change his view,” Leavitt said. “This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”
Musk, who recently concluded his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has repeatedly voiced concern that the bill runs counter to the department’s mission of reducing federal expenditures.
Speaking at a weekend event, Musk doubled down on his opposition. “Frankly, I was disappointed to see this massive spending bill. It increases the budget deficit instead of reducing it, and it undercuts the work the DOGE team has been doing,” he said.
He added pointedly: “I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful—but I’m not sure it can be both. Just my personal opinion.”
The legislation proposes $1.5trn in spending cuts as a condition to unlock $4.5bn in tax reductions. Should the necessary savings not be identified, the bill’s tax benefits would be scaled back proportionally.
According to the CBO, the bill would disproportionately benefit the wealthiest Americans while reducing resources for those in the lowest income brackets.
