ELON MUSK APOLOGISES AFTER STARLINK INTERNET GOES DOWN WORLDWIDE
Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk has apologised to Starlink users across the world following a major internet outage that left many without service for hours on Thursday night.
The satellite internet service, owned by Musk's company SpaceX, experienced one of its biggest global disruptions, affecting tens of thousands of users. The issue lasted about 2.5 hours and was linked to internal software problems.
Taking to his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote: “Sorry for the outage. SpaceX will remedy root cause to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”
Starlink, which has launched over 8,000 satellites into orbit since 2020, offers high-speed internet services globally, including in rural and underserved areas. In Nigeria, the service resumed new activations just last month after regulatory issues had previously forced a temporary pause.
Cities like Lagos and Abuja are currently among the top areas where demand for Starlink is high, as more Nigerians look for reliable alternatives to traditional internet service providers.
It will be recalled that in late 2024, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) raised concerns over Starlink’s price hikes, which were done without official approval.
Despite these hiccups, Starlink remains one of the most advanced satellite internet solutions globally. Musk's prompt apology and commitment to fixing the root cause is expected to restore customer trust and ensure more stable service in the future.
