ELECTRICITY CONSUMERS ROSE TO 12.16 MILLION IN Q4 2025 — NBS

The number of electricity consumers in Nigeria increased to 12.16 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The NBS report shows a steady rise in registered customers compared to previous quarters, driven by improved metering, grid expansion, and efforts by electricity distribution companies to formalise connections. However, challenges such as estimated billing and frequent outages continue to affect service quality.

Analysts noted that while the growth in consumer numbers is positive, it highlights the need for corresponding investment in generation and distribution capacity to meet rising demand. The report also indicated variations across distribution companies, with some regions recording higher connection rates.

The Power Minister welcomed the figures as evidence of growing access but called for accelerated reforms to improve reliability and reduce losses in the sector.

Stakeholders expect the trend to continue as the government pushes for universal electricity access through off-grid and renewable solutions.
