EL-RUFAI URGES NORTHERN GOVERNORS TO PRIORITISE TECHNOLOGY
Former Kaduna State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Nasir El-Rufai, has urged governors across Northern Nigeria to invest in technology and drive digital transformation in the region.
He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fully deploy technology for the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai made the remarks at the premiere of Fasahar Zamani, a 12-episode Hausa digital-technology series produced by Blue Sapphire Hub and supported by UK Development International. The series is designed to promote digital awareness and tech adoption across northern communities.
According to him, Northern Nigeria still trails behind in technology adoption, and state governments must take deliberate steps to support digital innovators with training opportunities and seed funding.
“Northern Nigeria is yet to come to terms with the reality of the tech age. State governments should identify digital and tech entrepreneurs in their states and support them to develop ideas, create jobs, and put Nigeria on the global technology map,” he said.
Idongesit Udoh, Country Lead for the UK Global Digital Access Programme, said the initiative aims to include underserved groups — especially women and persons with disabilities — in Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.
Blue Sapphire Hub founder, Maryam Lawan, explained that the new series highlights how technology can be applied practically, from agriculture to healthcare, and encourages northern residents to embrace digital skills for learning and economic empowerment.
