Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticized former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, asserting that no one is persecuting him. According to Adeyanju, El-Rufai is instead facing the consequences of his actions while in office.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Friday, Adeyanju called for a thorough investigation of the former governor over alleged corruption.

He stated, “Nobody is persecuting El-Rufai. If you want to see true persecution, look at all the victims of El-Rufai during his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State. Professor Chidi Odinkalu was persecuted. Steven Kefas was persecuted. Even Audu Maikori, whose situation he tried to downplay, was jailed. Their only crime was criticizing him. El-Rufai also demolished the house of Senator Hunkuyi, his political opponent in Kaduna State. He must be investigated over corruption allegations.”

Adeyanju added, “While calling for his investigation, his rights must still be respected. El-Rufai is now facing the same karma that former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami is facing today. When these individuals were in power, they acted like gods, disregarding due process. Teachers and civil servants in Kaduna obtained court orders restraining El-Rufai from sacking them, yet he went ahead and dismissed them regardless.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
