The Governing Council of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, has approved the appointment of Dr Jadesola Babatola as the seventh substantive Registrar and Secretary to the Council of the institution. His appointment was approved during the Council’s regular meeting held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, and will run for a five-year term beginning October 5, 2026.

Babatola was a Deputy Registrar at the university before his appointment to the top administrative position. According to a statement by the Deputy Registrar and Head of the Directorate of Information and Corporate Affairs, Mayowa Ogunlola, the university expressed confidence in his ability to have a successful tenure and wished him a remarkable period in office as Registrar and Secretary to the Council.

The new registrar attended Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti, before obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti, now known as Ekiti State University. He later earned an M.Sc. in Political Science, with a specialisation in Public Administration, from the University of Ibadan in 1997, and obtained a PhD in History and International Studies from EKSU in 2019.

Babatola has held several senior administrative positions in the education sector. He served as a Commissioner in the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board and was Registrar and Secretary to the Council of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, Ondo, from 2017 to 2018. He later served as Registrar and Secretary to Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ekowe Island, Bayelsa State, between 2018 and 2021, before becoming Registrar and Secretary to Council of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, from 2021 to 2025. He also previously served as Global President of the EKSU Alumni Association.

The university described Babatola as an historian, public analyst, university administrator and higher education manager. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management, Chartered Institute of Administration, Institute of Management Consultants and Institute of Corporate Administration, while also holding membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators, Association of University Administrators in the United Kingdom and an associate membership of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. He joined EKSU in 2001 as an Administrative Officer One after a brief period in the private sector.
