EKITI PLANS 50% TRANSPORT FARE REDUCTION WITH CNG BUSES
The Ekiti State Government has begun deploying Compressed Natural Gas-powered buses as part of efforts to reduce transport fares by 50 per cent and ease transportation costs for residents.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji announced the initiative in Ado-Ekiti during the inauguration of 15 CNG buses donated to the state by the Federal Government.
The governor said the 15 buses represented the first phase of the programme, adding that the state planned to expand the fleet to reach more residents.
Oyebanji said the initiative was designed to provide more affordable and accessible public transportation while helping to cushion the impact of rising transport costs.
He also urged transport unions to ensure that the savings from the CNG-powered buses were reflected in fares paid by commuters.
The governor thanked the Federal Government for providing the buses and said the initiative would help reduce the transportation burden on residents.
The deployment is part of broader efforts by the state government to promote more affordable public transport through the use of CNG-powered vehicles.
