EKITI 2026: PDP CANDIDATE OLUYEDE INSISTS GOV POLL NOT FREE, FAIR
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, Mr. Bisi Oluyede, has maintained his position that the poll was neither free nor fair, citing widespread irregularities and voter intimidation.
Oluyede, who addressed a press conference on Friday, vowed to explore all legal options to challenge the outcome, which he described as a “mockery of democracy.” He alleged that certain powerful individuals within the ruling party colluded with some electoral officials to manipulate results in several local government areas.
“The people of Ekiti deserve better. We witnessed ballot snatching, voter suppression, and result manipulation. This cannot be accepted as the true reflection of the electorate’s will,” Oluyede stated.
The PDP candidate called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a comprehensive audit of the election materials and processes. He also urged security agencies to investigate reported cases of violence and electoral offences.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the claims as baseless and an attempt to discredit the victory of its candidate. The party’s state publicity secretary, Mr. Kunle Ogunmola, said the election was conducted in line with the law and that Oluyede should accept the will of the people.
Political observers believe the controversy could lead to a prolonged legal battle that may further divide the state. The 2026 Ekiti governorship election was one of the most competitive in recent years, with high voter turnout recorded in most areas.
As the dust continues to settle, stakeholders have appealed for calm and urged all parties to allow the judicial process to run its course. Oluyede’s firm stance has kept the conversation about electoral integrity at the forefront of public discourse in Ekiti State.
