EIGHT-YEAR-OLD DIES, SEVERAL INJURED IN ANAMBRA EXPRESSWAY CRASH

Tragedy strikes along the Onitsha-Enugu route as a commercial transit vehicle loses control and overturns, prompting emergency intervention and renewed safety warnings from authorities

An eight-year-old girl has lost her life, and several other passengers have sustained varying degrees of injuries following a fatal road accident along the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway in Anambra State.  

The incident occurred near the Anabel Event Centre in Awka, when a commercial bus travelling from Nnewi toward Enugu suddenly lost control and overturned.  

According to reports from the Anambra State Fire Service, emergency personnel were mobilized to the scene immediately following distress calls.  

Rescuers secured the perimeter, prevented any potential secondary hazards, and evacuated the injured passengers to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment.  

Despite rapid response efforts, the young child succumbed to her injuries at the scene.  

In the wake of the incident, state safety authorities have once again appealed to commercial drivers and motorists to exercise extreme caution, adhere strictly to speed limits, and prioritize routine vehicle maintenance to safeguard commuters.
