Eight detainees have escaped from police custody in Gona, Bauchi State, in the early hours of Friday, August 8, 2025, sparking a manhunt by security agencies.

“They forcefully opened the nearby exit door and fled to an unknown location,” Makama posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Police immediately deployed rapid response patrol teams and divisional surveillance units to track down the fugitives. Their efforts have so far led to the rearrest of one escapee, identified as Abdullahi Haliru.
The remaining seven suspects are still at large, and security alerts have been issued across the state to aid their capture.
Authorities are calling on members of the public to report any suspicious movements or provide information that could lead to the arrest of the fugitives.
For now, the search continues, and security operatives say they are determined to return all escapees to custody.
