EID-EL-KABIR: RAM PRICES SURGE IN KADUNA MARKETS AHEAD OF CELEBRATION
As preparations intensify for this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, residents of Kaduna State are facing a sharp increase in the price of rams across major livestock markets.
A market survey shows that the cost of rams has risen significantly compared to previous weeks, with traders attributing the surge to high transportation costs, limited supply, and increased demand as the festive period approaches.
Buyers in popular livestock hubs within the state say the price hike has made it difficult for many families to afford rams, with some shoppers considering smaller animals or alternative arrangements.
Traders, however, insist that the increase is driven by market realities, noting that livestock brought in from northern and neighbouring regions now cost more to transport and maintain.
They also explained that insecurity in some livestock-producing areas and rising feed costs have affected supply chains, contributing to the upward pressure on prices.
Despite the challenges, many residents are still visiting markets in search of affordable options as they prepare for the religious festival, which traditionally involves the sacrifice of rams.
Some buyers have called on government authorities to intervene by addressing transportation and supply issues to ease the burden on consumers during festive seasons.
Eid-el-Kabir remains one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar, marked by prayers, family gatherings, and the symbolic sacrifice of animals in remembrance of faith and obedience.
