EGYPT BUS CRASH LEAVES 16 DEAD AND 28 INJURED IN SOUTH SINAI

At least 16 people have been killed and 28 others injured after a passenger bus overturned on a major road in Egypt’s South Sinai Governorate on Wednesday morning.

The crash occurred along the Dahab-Nuweiba road, near the Al-Saada area, in a region along Egypt’s eastern coast that is popular with tourists. Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population confirmed the casualties and said emergency teams were immediately mobilised to respond to the incident.

The ministry deployed 20 ambulances to the scene to provide emergency assistance and evacuate victims. The injured passengers were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment, with some reportedly transferred to larger hospitals depending on the severity of their conditions.

Authorities have yet to establish the precise cause of the crash. Initial reports indicate that the passenger bus overturned while travelling along the road connecting the Red Sea resort towns of Dahab and Nuweiba.

The accident occurred in an area known for its tourism activities and proximity to popular destinations along Egypt’s Red Sea coast. The location attracts both domestic and international visitors, making the incident particularly significant for authorities and emergency responders in the region.

Reports from Egyptian and international media also indicated that Jordanian nationals were among the passengers, although details concerning the nationalities and identities of all the victims were still being established as authorities continued their response.

The Egyptian Health Ministry said medical teams were providing treatment to those injured while authorities continued to coordinate the emergency response. Officials have also expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the crash.

The incident adds to concerns over road safety in Egypt, which has experienced a number of serious road accidents in recent years. Another major road accident in the country last month reportedly killed 15 people and injured 32 others in Ismailia Governorate.

As rescue and medical operations continue, authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the South Sinai crash and determine what led to the bus overturning.

The focus remains on treating the injured, identifying the victims and supporting affected families as officials work to establish the full circumstances of the deadly accident.
