The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has declared former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The EFCC announced the development in a public notice issued on Wednesday and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

The commission identified Maina, 61, as an indigene of Biu, Borno State, and appealed to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to contact the agency or the nearest police station.

The latest declaration comes amid Maina’s long-running legal battles over allegations of financial crimes.

Maina was previously convicted by the Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2021 on money laundering charges involving pension-related funds. He was sentenced to eight years in prison, while the Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in 2023. He was released in February 2025 after serving part of his sentence.

He is also facing a separate case before the Federal Capital Territory High Court involving an alleged N738.6m in stolen funds. His repeated absence from proceedings had earlier prompted the court to consider revoking his bail.

The EFCC’s latest notice did not provide details of the property allegedly received by Maina or state whether the new allegation is connected to his earlier cases.
