EFCC DECLARES FORMER BAYELSA GOVERNOR TIMIPRE SYLVA WANTED OVER $14 MILLION FRAUD ALLEGATION
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Bayelsa State Governor, Timipre Sylva, wanted over an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion involving more than $14 million.
The anti-graft agency made the announcement in a wanted-persons poster shared across its official social media platforms on Monday.
According to the EFCC, Sylva is wanted in connection with serious financial crimes, including alleged misappropriation of public funds during his tenure as governor.
The statement read in part:
“Timipre Sylva is wanted in connection with a case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of the sum of $14,000,000 (Fourteen Million U.S. Dollars) belonging to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Sylva, who served as Bayelsa State Governor from 2007 to 2012, has been a recurring figure in Nigeria’s corruption investigations. He also previously served as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The EFCC’s latest move has stirred widespread attention, as many Nigerians await further details on the allegations and whether the former governor will surrender to authorities or be apprehended.
The Commission urged anyone with useful information about Sylva’s whereabouts to contact the nearest EFCC office or law enforcement agency.
