The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained two senior officials of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) over allegations of fund diversion during the 2025 Hajj exercise.

Those arrested include Aliu Abdulrazak, the Commissioner for Policy, Personnel and Finance (PPMF), and Aminu Y. Muhammed, the Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA).

According to reports, both men were invited by the EFCC for questioning but were later detained after allegedly failing to refund funds believed to have been misappropriated.

This arrest comes amid mounting allegations of financial mismanagement within NAHCON. Recently, the Forum of Chief Executives of State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards/Agencies/Commissions described the 2025 Hajj operations as “a total failure” under the leadership of NAHCON chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman, popularly known as Professor Pakistan.

Earlier this month, the EFCC had also questioned other senior NAHCON officials, including:

Abdulmalik Diggi – Deputy Director (Accounts) & Special Adviser (General Services)

Sirajo Usman Salisu – Deputy Director in the Chairman’s Office

Barrister Nura Danladi – Legal Adviser to the commission

Sources further revealed that Abdulrazak and Muhammed are also being investigated for another alleged case of fund diversion linked to the tenure of former NAHCON chairman, Ahmad Jalal Arabi.

The EFCC has not yet released an official statement on the matter, but the development has deepened concerns over transparency and accountability in the management of Hajj funds.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
