EFCC ARRAIGNS MAN FOR ALLEGED ₦4.2M PROPERTY SCAM IN MAIDUGURI
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Muhammad Umar before Justice Aisha Ibrahim of the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, over an alleged ₦4.2 million property scam.
According to a statement from the anti-graft agency, Umar was charged on two counts of fraud and misappropriation by the EFCC’s Maiduguri Zonal Directorate on October 28, 2025.
The commission alleged that Umar fraudulently obtained ₦4.2 million from Abubakar Kaumi under the pretense of selling him a plot of land located in Bolori Ward, Maiduguri — a claim the EFCC said was false.
Umar, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when read before the court.
Following his plea, the EFCC’s counsel, S.O. Saka, requested that the court set a date for the trial and remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the commencement of proceedings.
Justice Ibrahim granted the request, ordering that Umar be remanded in custody and adjourned the case to November 3, 2025, for hearing.
The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice for victims of real estate fraud, warning Nigerians to exercise caution in property transactions and verify all claims before making payments.
