EDO PDP: OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO VOTE TINUBU OUT IN 2027
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made it clear that their primary mission ahead of the next election cycle is to ensure President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not return to office in 2027.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Benin City on Monday, the State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, urged party members and supporters to unite with one objective — to vote Tinubu out.
According to Aziegbemi, “The next thing I am urging every one of us on behalf of the PDP in Edo State is how to get Tinubu out of the presidency in 2027. That is our next target.”
He blamed the Tinubu-led administration for plunging Nigeria deeper into economic hardship, saying the country cannot continue under the current situation.
“They have ruined the economy of this nation, and the next thing is to make sure that he is removed from power in 2027. That is the mandate we are charging you going forward,” he declared.
However, the meeting also highlighted serious concerns about the internal state of the PDP itself.
Barrister Jimoh Ijegbai, a former Commissioner under Governor Godwin Obaseki, pointed out that the party must first resolve its internal crises if it truly hopes to challenge the APC in 2027.
Ijegbai warned, “Our chairman is telling us to prepare to take President Tinubu out of government. But I don’t know which vehicle you expect us to use. We will be deceiving ourselves to think we have a party that can do this today. A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
He stressed that multiple factions within the PDP are already fielding different candidates for upcoming by-elections, which could once again drag the party into endless court battles.
Ijegbai called for genuine reconciliation and a collective plan to rebuild the PDP into a united force.
“We must clearly know where we belong in the PDP. Unless we come together, we are only deceiving ourselves,” he cautioned.
As 2027 draws nearer, the big question remains: can the PDP in Edo, and across Nigeria, put their house in order well enough to seriously challenge President Tinubu and the APC at the polls? For now, it seems the battle is not only against the ruling party — but also within themselves.
