EDO GOVERNOR APPOINTS PROF. OMONZEJIE AS AAU’S FIRST FEMALE VICE CHANCELLOR
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Professor Eunice Omonzejie as the new Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma.
The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilo, who noted that the appointment takes immediate effect.
According to the statement, her emergence followed the submission of three shortlisted candidates by the university’s governing council.
Professor Omonzejie, a distinguished scholar of French and Francophone African Literatures, has had a long academic career with the Department of Modern Languages at AAU.
Her research interests cover African and Francophone literary studies, gender discourse, and cultural studies.
She previously served as President of the AAU chapter of the National Association of Women Academics (NAWACS), where she promoted mentorship, research development, and advocacy for women in higher education.
Professor Omonzejie has published widely and co-edited works such as French Language in Nigeria: Essays in Honour of UFTAN Pacesetters and Language Matters in Contemporary West Africa. She is also the author of Women Novelists in Francophone Black Africa: Views, Reviews and Interviews.
The Edo State Government described her appointment as a recognition of her academic excellence, leadership skills, and commitment to the growth of the institution.
She was congratulated by the government and urged to use her expertise to strengthen AAU’s vision of producing globally competitive graduates while advancing research and innovation.
