EDO GOVERNMENT ATTRIBUTES ROAD PROBLEMS TO PREVIOUS PROJECTS
The Edo State Government has attributed the deteriorating condition of several roads in the state to what it described as poor-quality projects carried out by the previous administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, made the claim during the ministry’s monthly media briefing in Benin City.
Afegbua said an assessment of some roads previously constructed or rehabilitated showed that several had developed potholes and deteriorated within a few years. He cited roads in areas including GRA, Iyekogba Estate, Irihrih and Okoroma.
The commissioner said the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo was committed to addressing the state’s infrastructure challenges but would avoid major road repairs during the rainy season.
He explained that carrying out extensive road construction during heavy rainfall could result in the wastage of construction materials and public funds.
Afegbua asked residents to be patient, saying major repairs would be undertaken during the dry season.
The government’s comments come as residents continue to raise concerns about the condition of roads across parts of Edo.
The commissioner said the administration was assessing roads across the state and remained committed to making them motorable.
