Ghana has strengthened health screening and disease monitoring following reports of Ebola cases in Kenya and Nigeria.

The Ministry of Health said Ghana had recorded no Ebola cases as of October 21, 2026. However, authorities are increasing preparedness to detect suspected infections early and respond quickly.

According to the ministry, direct flights between Ghana and Kenya, alongside frequent travel between Ghana and Nigeria, have made stronger monitoring necessary.

Health officials have increased screening at entry points, particularly airports, and are coordinating with aviation authorities and other partners. Emergency drills have also been conducted to test how teams would handle a suspected case.

Other measures include improving laboratory readiness, briefing healthcare workers and following up with travellers arriving from areas considered at higher risk.

The ministry is also expanding public education to help travellers understand Ebola prevention and know what to do if they develop symptoms.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, follow official health guidance and cooperate with public health teams. The measures are intended to strengthen Ghana’s readiness while protecting communities from a possible introduction of the virus.
