Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has once again proven why they’re the pride of African basketball. In the latest FIBA Women’s World Rankings, they climbed to an impressive 8th place globally — their highest-ever position — while holding firmly onto the No. 1 spot in Africa.

This milestone comes on the heels of their stunning fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket championship win in 2025, making it a record seven titles overall. Their dominance on the continent has been nothing short of remarkable, and they’ve already secured a place in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.

The updated rankings also brought other notable shifts: Great Britain dropped two spots to 22nd, Belgium stormed into the top five after their EuroBasketWomen triumph, and South Sudan soared an incredible 31 places to reach 55th. At the very top, Team USA continues to reign supreme as the world’s No. 1.

For D’Tigress, this achievement is more than just numbers — it’s a statement that Nigeria’s women can compete with the very best in the world.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
