Golden Reception for D’Tigress as FG and Zenith Bank Shower Team with Rewards

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, is still basking in the glory of their record-breaking fifth consecutive AfroBasket title — and the celebrations just keep getting better.

Following their historic win, the Federal Government rolled out massive rewards for the champions. Each player received a cash prize of £100,000 (paid in naira), while the technical crew got £50,000 to share. In addition, the players were honoured with the prestigious national award of OON (Officer of the Order of the Niger) and gifted a three-bedroom apartment each.

The generosity didn’t stop there. Hours later, Zenith Bank Plc — long-time sponsors of the women’s basketball league in Nigeria — hosted the team and announced a whopping ₦200 million cash gift. Each of the 13 players will take home ₦10 million, while the technical crew will share the rest.

Zenith Bank, which has supported the women’s league for the past 18 years, praised D’Tigress for their remarkable consistency, not only in Africa but also on the global stage. At the recent Olympic Games in Paris, the team impressed fans by finishing eighth overall.

Two key players — Murjanatu Musa and Ifunaya Okoro — as well as head coach Rena Wakama, are proud products of the Zenith Bank Women's Basketball League. Wakama herself once played for First Bank in the league before making history as the first female coach to lead Nigeria to an AfroBasket crown.

From the court to the podium, D’Tigress continue to inspire — and now, their hard work is being richly rewarded.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
