A witness from the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Adams, on Wednesday told the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, how he examined the defendant’s phone and Facebook page, uncovering videos in which Moses Oddiri accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, of allegedly intercepting ₦4 billion released by Heritage Operational Services Limited for the Orogun Community in Delta State.

Adams, who appeared as the first prosecution witness (PW1) before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, identified himself as a DSS officer serving in the Economic Intelligence and Investigation Department. He said he came to know the defendant during the course of investigating the case.

The witness explained that on September 23, 2025, the DSS received a petition from the EFCC alleging that Oddiri had circulated false claims on social media accusing the EFCC Chairman of embezzling the ₦4 billion royalty payment. “My director instructed me and my team to investigate the matter,” Adams said.

He stated that Oddiri was arrested on November 10, 2025, in Lagos and brought to the DSS office for an interview, which was audio-visually recorded in the presence of a legal aid counsel. During the interview, Oddiri voluntarily gave a statement under caution, and other witnesses were also interviewed.

Adams said the investigative team downloaded several videos from the defendant’s Facebook page in which he accused the EFCC Chairman of misappropriating the funds. The team also requested receipts, bank statements from First City Monument Bank (FCMB) and Zenith Bank, and incorporation documents from the Corporate Affairs Commission for community development entities operating OML 30, including the Orogun Kingdom Community Trust registered by Oddiri.

He further disclosed that the team obtained copies of letters from the EFCC and its legal counsel, Wahab Shittu, SAN, urging the defendant to retract his allegations, and submitted a preliminary report to their superior. A certificate of compliance was filed, and the team also sought information from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, the petroleum industry regulator.

Earlier, prosecution counsel C.S. Orubor informed the court that the trial and consideration of bail were set to commence. Defence counsel M. Adeniran objected, citing lack of access to his client while in DSS custody. Justice Abdulmalik, however, ordered the trial to proceed and adjourned the matter to March 13, 2026, for continuation of the trial and hearing of the bail application.

Oddiri faces a two-count charge relating to cybercrime under Section 24(1) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act 2024. The first count alleges that on September 17, 2025, at Surulere, Lagos, he used his Facebook page to post false messages intending to cause annoyance, insult, and injury to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.
