DON’T MAKE OSUN POLL A DO-OR-DIE AFFAIR, TRADITIONALISTS WARN GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATES

Traditional religion worshippers in Osun State have urged governorship candidates in the forthcoming August 15, 2026 election not to turn the poll into a do-or-die affair, warning against actions that could trigger violence or division in the state.

The Traditional Religion Worshippers Association of Osun State (TRWASO), led by President Dr Oluseyi Atanda, made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting, emphasising the need for peaceful and issue-based campaigns. They stressed that the election should not be used to settle personal scores or incite supporters.

The traditionalists highlighted Osun’s rich cultural heritage and called on candidates to prioritise the state’s development over personal ambitions. They warned that any attempt to rig or manipulate the process would be resisted through spiritual and community efforts.

The warning comes amid heightened political activities in the state, with major parties and candidates intensifying preparations for the governorship race. Security agencies have also been urged to remain vigilant to ensure a credible and violence-free election.

Stakeholders, including religious and community leaders, have echoed the call for decorum, urging all political actors to uphold the rule of law and respect the will of the people.
