Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has advised human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, to refrain from commenting on every matter without verifying the facts.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Wike emphasized the importance of accuracy in public commentary.

Falana had criticized Wike for declaring a public holiday ahead of the recently concluded Area Council Polls and for imposing a curfew in the nation’s capital.

In response, Wike said, “With all due respect, Femi Falana must not always comment just because he wants to. Comment on something you know about and have facts on. You can’t just wake up, hear something, and comment without verification.

“It was Mr President’s approval that movements be restricted due to security reports indicating attempts to bring in hoodlums. Not every matter requires public comment. And if you must comment, ensure you understand what actually happened.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
