Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has advised National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to look beyond white-collar jobs and embrace entrepreneurship, innovation, and skills acquisition as pathways to sustainable livelihoods.

Speaking during an interaction with corps members, the governor said the current economic realities require young Nigerians to develop practical skills and create opportunities for themselves rather than relying solely on government or corporate employment.

He urged the corps members to take advantage of the various skills acquisition and empowerment programmes available through the NYSC and other government initiatives to become self-reliant.

According to the governor, entrepreneurship remains a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction, adding that young people have the potential to transform their communities through innovation.

He encouraged the corps members to identify business opportunities in agriculture, technology, manufacturing, and the creative industry, stressing that these sectors offer significant prospects for growth.

The governor also assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to supporting youth development through policies and programmes aimed at promoting enterprise and innovation.

He urged them to make productive use of their service year by acquiring new knowledge, building valuable networks, and contributing positively to their host communities.

NYSC officials commended the governor’s message, describing it as timely and relevant in preparing young graduates for the realities of today’s labour market.

The corps members were encouraged to remain disciplined, dedicated, and committed to national service while exploring opportunities for personal and professional development.

The governor expressed confidence that with determination, creativity, and hard work, Nigerian youths can become successful entrepreneurs and employers of labour.
