Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, is set to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to his Senior Political Adviser, Mr. Istifanus Nwansat.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Monday, Nwansat confirmed that the governor’s move to the APC is already settled, noting that ongoing discussions are focused on resolving remaining issues ahead of a formal public announcement.

He explained that Mutfwang’s decision is largely driven by the internal crisis and instability within the PDP, which he described as making the party an unviable platform for political engagement and future electoral contests.

Nwansat also said the planned defection would position Plateau State in closer alignment with the federal government under President Bola Tinubu, adding that such alignment is seen as beneficial for governance and development in the state.

“It is only a matter of time before His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, officially joins the APC,” Nwansat said.

He added that a careful assessment of available political options showed that joining the APC presents the least risk and the most practical path forward for the governor and the state.

According to him, the governor believes it is both reasonable and strategic to align Plateau State with the presidency, especially in recognition of the federal government’s efforts to address national challenges.

Nwansat concluded that the decision reflects what the governor considers to be the best interest of the state and its people, stressing that the move is based on pragmatic political and governance considerations rather than sentiment.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
