DON URGES FG TO LINK BORROWING TO INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
A university don has advised the Federal Government to ensure that borrowed funds are directly tied to infrastructure projects that can deliver long-term economic benefits.
The academic said government borrowing should focus on productive investments such as transportation, energy, healthcare, and other critical infrastructure rather than recurrent expenditure.
According to him, directing loans toward projects that improve productivity and create economic opportunities would help justify borrowing and reduce concerns over rising public debt.
Economic experts have similarly stressed the importance of ensuring transparency, accountability, and proper monitoring of borrowed funds to maximise their impact on citizens.
They noted that infrastructure investments can support economic growth, attract private sector participation, create jobs, and improve the country’s competitiveness when properly executed.
The don urged the government to adopt a more strategic approach to borrowing by prioritising projects that generate value, strengthen the economy, and improve living standards for Nigerians.
