Nigerian record producer and music executive, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has sparked conversation after describing singer Johnny Drille as the most complete musician in the Nigerian music industry.

Don Jazzy made the statement during a recent appearance on the Crea8torium Podcast, where he spoke passionately about the Mavin Records artiste and his musical abilities.

According to him, Johnny Drille stands out in a league of his own, combining songwriting, vocal delivery, production understanding, and live performance in a way that sets him apart from his peers.

“If you look at the Nigerian music industry right now, there is nobody like Johnny Drille,” Don Jazzy said.

“He is in a world of his own. He is like the best musician — the complete musician that I know. He is versatile. He mixes, writes, sings. He does everything.

“He is also an amazing performer — the way he sounds in the studio is the same way he sounds in live shows.”

His remarks have once again highlighted the growing recognition of alternative and soul-inspired sounds within the mainstream Afrobeats space.

Meanwhile, award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has also shared reflections on her early struggles after returning to Nigeria’s music industry in 2012.

Speaking in an interview with TVC, Tiwa Savage recounted her transition from an R&B-focused career abroad—where she worked as a backup vocalist for international stars including George Michael and Mary J. Blige—into the rapidly evolving Afrobeats scene.

She explained that her return to Nigeria and eventual signing with Mavin Records marked a turning point in her career, largely shaped by the vision and encouragement of Don Jazzy.

According to her, Don Jazzy played a key role in reshaping her mindset, helping her understand that her talent was not limited to a single genre.

She added that his guidance opened her mind to new possibilities and gave her the confidence to fully embrace Afrobeats without abandoning her musical identity.

Tiwa Savage also stated that she has no regrets about returning to Nigeria, noting that the transition ultimately expanded her career and global reach.

The comments from both artistes once again shine a spotlight on the influence of Mavin Records in shaping modern Nigerian music and nurturing some of its most distinctive talents.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
