DOMESTIC COOKING GAS SUPPLY RISES TO 5,332 TONNES DAILY

Nigeria’s domestic cooking gas supply increased to 5,332 tonnes per day in July 2026, with Nigeria LNG Limited and SEPNU emerging as the largest suppliers, according to data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

The NMDPRA’s July statistics showed that total Liquefied Petroleum Gas supply rose from 5,100 tonnes per day in June to 5,332 tonnes in July, marking the highest level recorded during the 13-month period covered by the data.

NLNG/SEPNU supplied 2,031 tonnes per day through vessels, accounting for about 38 per cent of the total supply. Other gas processing plants contributed 1,513 tonnes per day through trucks, while the Dangote Petroleum Refinery supplied 829 tonnes.

Imports accounted for 959 tonnes per day during the month.

Overall, domestic sources supplied 4,373 tonnes per day, representing about 82 per cent of total LPG availability, while imports made up the remaining 18 per cent.

Despite the improvement in supply, cooking gas prices remain relatively high across the country. Retail prices, which previously reached about ₦2,400 per kilogramme, have fallen to between ₦1,300 and ₦1,600 depending on location.

The latest figures indicate that local production is increasingly meeting a larger share of Nigeria’s cooking gas demand, although consumers are yet to see a corresponding major decline in prices.
