DISCOS COLLECT N603.6BN AS ELECTRICITY OFFTAKE FALLS
Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies collected N603.64bn from customers in the second quarter of 2026, even as the volume of electricity supplied to them declined during the period.
The latest report from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission showed that DisCos received 9,502.79 gigawatt-hours of energy in the quarter, representing a 3.4 per cent decline from the previous quarter.
Despite the lower power offtake, revenue collection remained significant as DisCos continued to bill customers across their networks.
The report also showed that the distribution companies faced challenges in meeting their performance targets, including energy delivery and revenue collection.
NERC has continued to monitor the performance of DisCos through quarterly reports covering electricity supply, billing, collections and customer service.
The figures come amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and industry regulators to improve electricity supply and strengthen the financial sustainability of the power sector.
The commission has also been pushing for greater accountability among operators as part of reforms aimed at improving service delivery to electricity consumers.
The second-quarter figures highlight the continuing gap between the volume of electricity available to distribution companies and the revenue generated from customers.
