‘DIGITAL SURGE IS A CALL TO INNOVATE, NOT A CAUSE FOR DISRUPTION’
The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Charles Ebuebu, has described the ongoing digital revolution not as a disruption, but as an opportunity for innovation.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, Ebuebu announced that the Commission is organizing Africast 2025 to reshape digital discourse and advance the media industry across the continent. Themed “Navigating the Digital Surge: Building a Resilient African Media Ecosystem,” the event aims to address the challenges and opportunities presented by rapid technological advancement.
Scheduled for October 20th to 24th, 2025, in Lagos, Africast 2025 is expected to draw media professionals, investors, policymakers, regulators, and creative talents from around the world. Ebuebu emphasized that this edition promises to be the most transformative yet, with a focus on fostering inclusivity, enhancing media regulation, and equipping emerging creators and advertisers to thrive in the fast-evolving digital environment.
To him, “Africast will reflect the ongoing digital evolution in content creation, distribution, regulation and consumption.
“Our focus is to elevate young creatives, integrate emerging technologies like AI, and create a platform for collaboration, innovation, and impactful policy conversations.”
Ebuebu said there would be masterclasses, exhibitions, film showcases, and tech product unveilings, workshops and roundtables focusing on AI, data affordability, content monetization, and new media regulations; regional studio partnerships to empower creatives with low-cost production access; as well as launch of new content guidelines and policy reforms aimed at safeguarding digital content integrity.
