DEMOCRACY DAY: NAPS CALLS FOR SECURITY AND EDUCATION REFORMS
The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has called for urgent reforms in Nigeria’s security and education sectors as the country marks Democracy Day.
In a statement commemorating June 12, the student body urged government at all levels to prioritize policies that strengthen learning institutions and address rising insecurity across the country.
NAPS noted that insecurity has disrupted academic activities in several regions, calling for improved protection of students, teachers, and school infrastructure.
The association also stressed the need for increased investment in education, including better funding for polytechnics, improved learning facilities, and enhanced welfare for students and staff.
Leaders of the group said meaningful democratic governance must reflect in improved living conditions, especially for young people who represent the future of the country.
They urged policymakers to ensure that education remains a central pillar of national development while security agencies intensify efforts to protect communities.
