DELTA TO RECEIVE 400 TROOPS AS ARMY ESTABLISHES NEW AIR DEFENCE UNIT
Delta State Governor welcomes deployment of military personnel and formation of a specialized 83 Division Air Defence Regiment aimed at safeguarding critical national infrastructure
Delta State is set to receive between 300 and 400 military personnel over the coming weeks as the Nigerian Army finalizes preparations to establish a new Air Defence Regiment under the 83 Division.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori announced the deployment during a security briefing, noting that the new military formation will significantly bolster regional security architecture and enhance the protection of vital oil and gas installations across the state.
According to the state administration, the Delta State Government has already allocated land for a temporary facility to accommodate the incoming troops while long-term arrangements for a permanent site are being finalized.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that maintaining robust security partnerships remains central to regional development, asserting that strategic military placements are indispensable to deterring criminal elements and ensuring economic stability.
The 83 Division, which encompasses Delta, Edo, and Bayelsa states, continues to realign its operational units to reduce response times and provide comprehensive geographical coverage against emerging security threats.
