DELTA POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT AFTER EFFURUN ROBBERY ATTACK

The Delta State Police Command has launched a manhunt for two masked men who allegedly attacked a 48-year-old resident during a robbery operation in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. The incident occurred around 5:30am on September 4, 2026, when the suspects, armed with a locally made shotgun, reportedly broke into the victim’s residence in the Charlisco area along the NPA Express Road.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the victim confronted one of the attackers and engaged him in a struggle over the firearm. During the confrontation, the locally made gun reportedly broke. The second suspect then allegedly struck the victim on the forehead before both men fled from the residence, abandoning the damaged weapon at the scene.

The incident was reported at the Ekpan Police Division at about 6:14am, following which officers were immediately deployed to the area. Police operatives recovered the broken firearm and commenced efforts to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspects. The injured victim was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention.

Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, commended the victim for his courage in confronting the suspected robbers and assured him that the police would continue working to track down those responsible for the attack. The command also appealed to residents with useful information about the suspects to contact the nearest police station or the command's control room.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Ubulu-Uku arrested a 40-year-old woman, Joy Anthony, who was allegedly involved in drug peddling in Agbor. Police said a search of her residence in Agbor-Obi led to the recovery of substances suspected to include Swinol, Tramadol, Codeine, Canadian Loud and Indian hemp. The suspect and recovered exhibits remain in police custody as investigations continue.
