Delta Air Lines has introduced a limited-time loyalty promotion that gives eligible new Delta SkyMiles American Express cardholders an opportunity to earn two round-trip Comfort Flight Certificates alongside 50,000 bonus SkyMiles. The initiative forms part of a series of promotional offers launched by Delta and American Express to commemorate 30 years of partnership between the airline and the financial services company.

Under the promotion, customers who apply for the Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Consumer Card and spend at least $10,000 during their first six months will qualify for the travel certificates and bonus miles. Delta said the offer, which began on August 27, will remain available until November 4, 2026, subject to the stated eligibility requirements and terms attached to the card.

The two Comfort Flight Certificates can be used for eligible round-trip journeys operated by Delta within the 48 contiguous United States, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The airline said there would be no blackout dates, although travellers must make their bookings at least 21 days before departure. Taxes and fees of up to $80 per passenger will also apply when the certificates are redeemed.

The new incentive comes as airlines increasingly rely on loyalty programmes to attract and retain frequent travellers by offering benefits that extend beyond flight schedules and ticket prices. Delta said its rewards programme is designed to add value to the overall passenger experience, particularly for customers who place importance on comfort, flexibility and additional travel benefits.

For Nigerian travellers who regularly visit the United States, the promotion could be useful for domestic connections after arriving in the country. Delta operates nonstop services between Lagos and Atlanta, allowing passengers to connect to other destinations across its US network. However, the airline clarified that the certificates cannot be used for Lagos-US flights themselves and are limited to qualifying Delta-operated round trips within the designated US destinations and territories.
