DELTA GOVERNMENT PLANS JOBS, EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES TO TACKLE DRUG ABUSE

The Delta State Government has announced plans to prioritise job creation and youth empowerment initiatives as part of efforts to address the growing challenge of drug abuse among young people.

The state Commissioner responsible for the programme said providing employment opportunities and supporting youths with skills and economic opportunities would help reduce vulnerability to substance abuse and other social challenges.

According to the commissioner, tackling drug abuse requires more than enforcement measures, stressing the need for preventive strategies that address unemployment, poverty, and limited opportunities among young people.

The government said it will strengthen partnerships with relevant agencies, community groups, and stakeholders to expand empowerment programmes and create pathways for youths to become economically independent.

Experts noted that youth-focused development initiatives can play an important role in reducing social risks by improving access to education, skills training, and sustainable livelihoods.

The Delta State Government reaffirmed its commitment to implementing programmes that promote youth development, economic inclusion, and a safer environment for residents.
