DELTA COMMUNITY LAMENTS PROLONGED BLACKOUT, CALLS FOR BEDC INTERVENTION
Residents of Fear God Street in Bonsaac, Asaba, Delta State, have appealed to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to restore electricity supply to the community after enduring a prolonged power outage.
The residents accused the electricity distribution company and members of the community electricity committee of failing to resolve the situation, saying the continued blackout has made life increasingly difficult for households and businesses in the area.
According to the residents, the absence of electricity has disrupted their daily activities and negatively affected businesses that depend on regular power supply to operate. They expressed frustration over the length of time the community has remained without electricity despite repeated complaints.
The affected residents called on BEDC to urgently investigate the cause of the outage and take steps to restore supply to the area. They also appealed to relevant authorities to intervene if the electricity company fails to address their concerns.
The community members said they should not be left without electricity for an extended period, particularly when residents continue to face the financial burden associated with alternative sources of power.
The residents further urged the electricity company to communicate clearly with them about the cause of the disruption and provide a definite timeline for restoring supply.
The prolonged outage has also raised concerns about the effectiveness of the community electricity committee, with residents questioning its role in ensuring that the area's electricity-related complaints are properly communicated and resolved.
The affected community is therefore seeking immediate intervention from BEDC and other relevant authorities to end the blackout and restore normal electricity supply to Fear God Street and its environs.
Residents maintained that access to reliable electricity remains essential for their homes, businesses and other daily activities, and urged the distribution company to treat their complaint as a matter requiring urgent attention.
