The Delta State House of Assembly has warned politicians and their supporters against violence, bitterness and personal attacks as political activities gather pace ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Speaker of the House, Emomotimi Guwor Dennis, issued the warning on Wednesday as lawmakers resumed plenary after the 2026 annual recess. He urged political parties and candidates to focus their campaigns on ideas, competence, character and service to the people.

Guwor said elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair, stressing that politicians should present programmes capable of improving the lives of residents rather than resorting to division and confrontation.

He also called on supporters of political parties to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the electoral process and avoid actions that could threaten peace in the state.

The Speaker noted that campaigns for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections began on August 19, while campaigns for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates are scheduled to begin on September 9.

Guwor also described the planned increase in Delta’s state constituencies from 29 to 38 as a significant development, saying the additional nine constituencies would improve grassroots representation.

He assured that the Assembly would continue to support effective legislation, oversight and representation while contributing to a peaceful electoral environment in the state.
