DELE MOMODU: JONATHAN WILL NOT CONTEST 2027 ELECTION UNDER PDP

Dele Momodu, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has dismissed speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme, Momodu noted that entrenched interests within the PDP remain opposed to Jonathan’s return to the party’s ticket.

He further explained that political meetings, such as Jonathan’s recent engagement with former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, should not be interpreted as forming an alliance, emphasizing that politicians often meet for various reasons.

Momodu added that speculation is common in politics, citing public reactions to a recent meeting between Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and President Bola Tinubu.

He said: “Those saying former President Jonathan will run under PDP—I doubt it, because those determined to dominate or control the PDP are still very much entrenched. As for meetings between him and former Governor Peter Obi, it’s normal for politicians to meet; they do it all the time.

“The other day, people saw Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso with President Bola Tinubu and speculated he might leave NNPP for APC. Politics always invites speculation. This is not a time for rumors; it’s a time to focus and strategize.

“So all this noise about alliances or moves—let it be. In a democracy, if consensus cannot be reached, then there should be a primary. Let them go to the polls, and whoever wins, wins.”

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
