Nigerian midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has expressed his disappointment at not being able to play alongside his brother, Tom Dele-Bashiru, for the Super Eagles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Both brothers were included in Nigeria’s initial 54-player provisional squad announced in early December ahead of the tournament. However, only Fisayo made the cut for the final team that traveled to Morocco, leaving Tom out.

Fisayo, who currently plays for Italian club Lazio, has featured in Nigeria’s victories over Tanzania and Uganda. His contributions helped the Super Eagles top Group C with nine points, finishing first in the group.

Speaking about missing the opportunity to represent his country alongside his brother, Fisayo said it was particularly disappointing for their family, who had eagerly anticipated the moment. “The family was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, he wasn’t selected for the final team,” he told Victor Modo.

Despite the setback, Fisayo remains hopeful that he and Tom will one day play together for Nigeria. He emphasized that the exclusion has not dampened their determination to achieve their goals.

Nigeria now shifts focus to their Round of 16 clash against Mozambique as they continue their quest to reclaim the continental title.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
