The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for justice and fairness in the treatment of all workers as the country joins the rest of the world to mark Decent Work Day.

In a statement on Tuesday, NLC President Joe Ajaero emphasized that the rights and welfare of workers must remain a top priority and never be compromised.

He described the annual event as an avenue to demand an end to what he termed “exploitation and impunity in workplaces” across Nigeria, noting that decent work is a key foundation for national progress.

“The rights and welfare of workers must not be compromised. We must end all forms of exploitation and impunity in our workplaces,” Ajaero stated.

He urged both the government and private sector employers to uphold the four key pillars of decent work — job creation, social protection, rights at work, and social dialogue.

Ajaero further lamented that some government agencies and private organisations were violating these principles, warning that such actions were undermining industrialisation and economic diversification efforts.

“No nation can achieve meaningful development while repressing workers’ rights and promoting inequality,” he added.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
