Afrobeats star Davido (David Adeleke) has announced his decision to discontinue the ongoing custody proceedings concerning his daughter, Imade, expressing disappointment over developments in court.

In a post on X late Friday, the singer clarified that he never sought sole custody, as widely speculated, but was requesting joint custody.

“I never asked for full custody … I asked for joint custody. Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade … so I don’t know why some people are celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.

Davido said he withdrew from the case after what he described as an unacceptable turn in the courtroom, including distressing references to his late son.

“I’ve decided to drop the case because … until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!” he stated.

He emphasized that his actions were motivated by love and responsibility toward his daughter, assuring that his efforts would be recognized in time.

“My daughter will grow up knowing I fought for her … let’s move on. One love!” he added.

On Instagram, Davido also criticised the opposing legal team, accusing them of unprofessional conduct during the hearings.

“I disgraced you in the courtroom … I was teaching you your work … and then went on to mention my son. Like I said in the courtroom, I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever,” he wrote.

The developments follow earlier reports from Lagos-based legal practitioner Maruf Muhammed, who highlighted tense moments at the Lagos State High Court, Yaba.

“Davido in High Court, Yaba now! Come and see drama in court. The lawyer made 001 lose his patience during cross-examination o! Be you never so high, the law is above you,” Muhammed posted, noting that the session concerned Imade’s custody.

Imade was recently seen spending quality time with her father after winning a talent competition, delighting fans and reaffirming the commitment of both parents to her well-being.

The long-standing custody dispute between Davido and his daughter’s mother continues to attract attention, with supporters encouraging peaceful co-parenting.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
