DAVIDO PICKS ASAKE, REMA, AND OMAH LAY AS AFROBEATS’ NEXT GOATS
Afrobeats superstar Davido has identified Asake, Rema, and Omah Lay as the male artistes he believes have the potential to become some of the greatest in the Nigerian music scene.
The award-winning singer made the comments on Wednesday during a Twitch livestream hosted by comedian Carter Efe, clips of which have since gone viral on social media.
When asked who he considered the next “GOAT” in the industry, Davido replied, “Right now, for me, I say, between Asake, Omah Lay, or Rema. If you ask me, I think they’ve done exceptionally well.”
He clarified that his picks focused on male artistes, while acknowledging the accomplishments of top female stars. “Obviously, we have Tems, Ayra Starr, stuff like that. I’m talking about males. Those three, killing it, you know what I’m saying,” he added.
Davido also praised the trio, noting their rising global influence. “Omah Lay, obviously, my brother. Rema, love him so much. Asake, I have so much love for him as well. They’re all doing amazingly well,” he said.
Highlighting their international impact, the singer remarked, “Especially globally. Like it’s just amazing to be in America and see them. You know what I’m saying. It is not easy.”
Regarded as one of Afrobeats’ most influential figures, Davido has consistently emphasized the significance of legacy and international reach as Nigerian music continues to expand worldwide.
As Afrobeats grows in global popularity, debates about who qualifies as the “greatest of all time” remain a hot topic, with conversations increasingly centered on the artistes poised to define the next era of greatness.
