Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has officially become a voting member of the Recording Academy, the body responsible for the Grammy Awards.

With this recognition, Davido will now participate in the decision-making process that determines Grammy nominees and winners.

The singer described his admission into the Academy as “a gamechanger.” In a video message, he said:
“I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to join the Recording Academy and I look forward to voting.”

Davido has had a strong run with the Grammys in recent years. He received his first three nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards but lost out in all categories. In 2025, he earned another nomination for his collaboration with Chris Brown and Lojay on “Sensational” in the Best African Music Performance category, though the award went to Tems for “Love Me Jeje.”

As a voting member, Davido joins other influential figures in shaping the global music landscape, further cementing his place as one of Africa’s most impactful music exports.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
