Nigerian music icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, marking a major step in the state government’s efforts to revitalise its sports sector.

The announcement was made by the Osun State Government on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, through an official statement highlighting the initiative as part of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to youth empowerment and sports development.

According to the statement, Davido’s role will focus on mobilising resources and partnerships to drive the development and modernisation of sports infrastructure across the state.

Confirming the appointment, the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, revealed that Davido had enthusiastically accepted the role and expressed his readiness to contribute to Osun’s sports transformation agenda.

“The ongoing rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards will be completed soon. We are also finalising plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports development and policy implementation,” Adewusi stated.

He added that the newly established Sports Trust Fund, under Davido’s leadership, would attract both local and international investments to ensure sustainable financing for sports in the state.

“Davido’s involvement is expected to attract substantial support that will significantly impact the growth of sports in Osun,” he added.

Governor Adeleke’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to making sports a key pillar of youth development, talent discovery, and community engagement, noting that Davido’s influence and passion for philanthropy make him an ideal figure to lead the initiative.
