DAVID DE GEA RETURNS TO OLD TRAFFORD WITH FIORENTINA FOR EMOTIONAL REUNION
De Gea Set for Warm Welcome at Old Trafford in Pre-Season Clash
Manchester United fans are set to welcome back a familiar face this weekend as David De Gea returns to Old Trafford—but this time, as an opponent.
The former United goalkeeper, who now plays for Italian side Fiorentina, will be in action on Saturday when his new club faces Manchester United in their final pre-season game ahead of the 2025/26 season.
De Gea, who spent 12 memorable years at United before his departure in 2023, remains a beloved figure among the Red Devils faithful. Known for his incredible reflexes and shot-stopping skills, the Spaniard made over 500 appearances for the club, winning multiple individual awards and helping United lift major trophies, including the Premier League and Europa League.
The club acknowledged his upcoming return with a heartfelt message on their official website, assuring fans that De Gea will receive a warm reception on his comeback to the Theatre of Dreams.
“David De Gea is set for an emotional return to Old Trafford as a Fiorentina player. His contribution to Manchester United will never be forgotten,” the club stated.
De Gea was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson from Atletico Madrid in 2011 as a long-term replacement for Edwin van der Sar, and despite a rocky start, he eventually became a fan favourite and club legend.
Saturday’s game promises not only to be a competitive fixture but also an emotional reunion between the player and the fans who stood by him for over a decade.
