DANGOTE REFINERY QUIETLY RAISES PETROL PRICE TO ₦950/LITRE NATIONWIDE

The Dangote Refinery has silently increased the retail price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to ₦950 per litre at several MRS filling stations across Abuja and other parts of Nigeria.

The price hike comes despite the refinery’s 650,000-barrel-per-day capacity, its ongoing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck distribution scheme, and the Naira-for-Crude initiative with the Federal Government.

As of Tuesday, October 14, 2025, MRS outlets in Kubwa and along the Lugbe Expressway were selling petrol at ₦851 per litre. However, by Wednesday, prices surged by ₦100, reaching ₦950 per litre.

The same price adjustment has been observed among other Dangote Refinery retail partners, including Ardova and Optima.

A manager at one of the MRS stations, who requested anonymity, told DAILY POST that the price hike resulted from a recent increase in the refinery’s wholesale supply cost to marketers.

“We had no choice. The ₦950 per litre we currently dispense is only slightly above the new amount Dangote Refinery now charges us. It is no longer ₦850 per litre. The price has also gone up in Lagos and other cities,” the source revealed.

Industry insiders disclosed that the refinery temporarily halted gantry petrol loading in recent days, focusing instead on its last-mile distribution scheme following production shortfalls.

Despite previous assurances that the refinery’s operations would lower petrol costs, the reverse appears to be happening, as consumers nationwide now pay between ₦950 and ₦990 per litre, depending on location.

The development comes shortly after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) renewed its Naira-for-Crude deal with Dangote Refinery.

Two days earlier, NNPCL and several major filling stations had also raised their petrol prices to about ₦955 per litre, up from ₦905–₦920, citing supply disruptions from the refinery.

Depot owners such as Ranoil, Matrix, AA Rano, and AYM Shafa have also increased their ex-depot prices to between ₦885 and ₦897 per litre in Lagos and Warri, intensifying the strain on downstream supply and retail prices nationwide.

Meanwhile, Dangote Refinery has not yet issued an official statement regarding the ongoing price surge.

"This represents a significant development in our ongoing coverage of current events."
